Website chat
Visitors write in a small widget on your site and it lands in the same inbox as every other channel you have connected. A workspace can run up to three sites; the chips up here switch between them.

Chat on your own website
Visitors write in a small widget on your site and it lands in the same inbox as every other channel you have connected. A workspace can run up to three sites; the chips up here switch between them.
One tag, every page
Copy the tag and paste it before </body> on every page where you want the chat — Shopify, WordPress, Webflow or your own code. The dot beside it turns green after the first page view, which is how you know the tag is live.
Colour, position, name, greeting
The launcher colour and corner, the team name and avatar in the chat header, and the greeting bubble that invites the first message. Every change here shows in the preview on the right the moment you save.
Hours, the away message, your domains
Office hours decide when the widget says you are away and what it says instead. Below them, list your domains: once you do, the widget only loads on those sites, so a copied tag does nothing anywhere else.
The real widget, live
This is the actual widget on a sample page, reloaded after every save. Open it, send a message, and the conversation appears in your inbox under Website chat — the fastest way to check the whole path before it goes on your site.
Ideas you'll meet
The same explanations the ⓘ marks give in the app.
- allowed domains
- The widget only loads on the domains you list — a tag copied onto another site is refused. While the list is empty it runs anywhere, so fill it in before launch. A domain covers its subdomains. Read the guide →
- a website visitor
- The widget remembers a visitor per browser, so the same person on their phone and laptop is two visitors. The email ask after their first message, or an identify call from your site, names the lead. Read the guide →
- business hours
- Outside the hours you set, the widget shows your away message instead of promising a reply. The message still lands in the inbox; your answer waits until they reopen the chat on that browser. Read the guide →

Common questions
Does the chat slow my site down?
Not measurably. The tag is async, so it loads after the page has painted, and the file is kept under 20 KB compressed. Nothing else is fetched until a visitor opens the chat.
Can someone copy my tag onto their site?
They can copy it; it will not work. Every request carries the page's origin and the server refuses any domain that is not on your list. Fill the list in before launch — while it is empty the widget runs anywhere, which is only right for testing.
Will a visitor see my reply if they have closed the page?
Not until they open the chat again on the same browser, where their thread and your reply are waiting. Nothing reaches a closed tab, which is why the widget can ask for an email after the first message — it gives you a way to follow up.
Is a visitor the same person across devices?
No. Identity is per browser: a phone and a laptop are two visitors, and a cleared browser is a new one. The email ask, or an identify call from your site when somebody is logged in, names the lead so you can tell they are the same person.
Which channel should I connect first?
The one your customers already use. Each channel has one requirement that stops people at the door — a Professional account linked to a Page for Instagram, a Page role for Messenger, a Business Platform number for WhatsApp, a BotFather token for Telegram — and clearing one is faster than clearing four.
Why is my inbox empty after connecting?
Because nothing has replied to anyone yet. Build one automation from a template, trigger it yourself from another account, and the inbox, the leads list and the analytics all start to fill from that first reply.
I dismissed the setup checklist — how do I get it back?
From the help menu at the top of every page: Show setup checklist brings it back, and Restart the product tour runs the walkthrough again. Both work on a phone as well as a laptop.
Where do I reconnect a channel whose token expired?
On that channel's own settings page — the bottom half of the settings list is one page per connected channel, and the connection, its health and the reconnect button all live there.
